Re: Page Refresh Problem
I would like to check back in with our user base and see if our solution worked for them. Is there anyone that was having the problem mentioned above, have that issue resolved with our fix? Is there anyone still having this problem, or similar issue?
I have also learned new information since the original complaint. Some users are experiencing a problem while viewing the Forum Index page. New posts and threads within a forum are designated next to each forum by a small gray arrow next to the Forum Title. After viewing a new thread, the user would return to the Forum Index page (by hitting the Back button) and still receive the new thread notification.
The fix we implemented will hopefully resolve your problem when using the Back button for navigation on our site. However, we have another suggestion that may help solve the problem.
Also of note, any user may double-click on the new thread notification arrow and it will go away for the rest of your viewing session. Another workaround is to use other means of site navigation, including the DHTML drop-down menus, the Forum Jump menu, or the Site Navigation header bar. All three items are located on every page of forum, and at least some are used in every Article.
To force your Internet Explorer to check the website for new versions of the page during each visit, perform the following steps:
For Internet Explorer 8:
Open Internet Explorer and open the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
In the General tab, find the Browsing History category; click the Settings button.
Change the option for "Check for newer versions of stored pages:" to "Every time I visit the webpage"
