It’s Like Quicksand…. Oh Wait. There’s the Bottom.

It’s amazing how something can feel like it shot by in a hurry yet lingered forever, isn’t it? For me, that’s the perfect way to describe May 2016. Between the anarchy that is Rockfest KC, the mad dash to get enough Planeswalker Points to qualify for my first round byes for next year, and the FRAG trip to GP Minneapolis, it was a whirlwind ride to say the least.

Never a Dull Moment…

Spring always has a way of exploding into your life, and it looks like this year isn’t going to be any different. With a ton of things happening in the Kansas City area and another FRAG Road Trip at the end of the month, May is turning out to be one of the busiest months we’ve had around here in a long time. For those who don’t keep track of the rest of the world, here’s some things you might have missed….

Have I Mentioned My Hatred of Spammers?

So I’ve spent the last several hours cleaning up the forum and the website from all the months of neglect. I swear, spammers are like rats. Turn your head for just a few minutes and they nest up and breed in the dark corners.

No News is Good News?

Well, yes, I am serious. I know it doesn’t look like much has been happening on the site, and after the last post a few months ago about us bringing it back from the dead, I must look a bit like the boy who cried wolf. So, with that I mind, I thought I should give you guys a bit of an update as to the things going on around here.

It’s Alive!!!!

Yes, the website has been effectively dead for almost a year now. We just kind of lost the urge to do it anymore. But time and rest has renewed the interest in working on things that we so sorely lacked this time last year. So we’re digging out the shovels and breathing some life back into this corpse!

The Midwest Massacre 2015

A day late as usual, but here it is folks, the official announcement of the 2015 Midwest Massacre Warhammer 40K Tournament, presented by FRAG and! This marks the 7th year that FRAG will host the Midwest Massacre and once again this year it will be held at the Recruits Gaming Convention in Lee’s Summit, MO. This year though, we’re changing it up a bit…

While I can and will write an entire article about why we went with the new format, this isn’t the time. For now, here’s what you need to know. This year the Midwest Massacre will be held on September 12th. It will be a three round tournament with three hours per round. The points limit for this event will be 2500 points. Painted models will not be required for this event. The cost for this event will be $20 and does not include the $5 charge for a convention badge that each player is required to have to play at Recruits.

This tournament is restricted to the first 24 participants who sign up and pay their entry fees. Pre-registration will open to all FRAG members for one week beginning on May 1st, 2015. On May 7th, any spots left available will be offered to the general public. As usual, pre-registration can be done via the website. If you are a FRAG member who wishes to pre-register, please contact us at for the link. All emails with the link will be sent out on May 1st, at midnight CST.

While prizes may vary depending on the amount of support we receive, we will be giving away at least $500 in trophies and prizes. Plaques and prizes will be awarded to Best General, Best Overall, Best Painted, and Player’s Choice. Prizes for all awards will be of approximately equal value. Door prizes will also be available and will be handed out via raffle in the usual manner.

That’s all for now, but we’ll be releasing the full rules packet in the next few days. Be sure to check back for that release and future articles in our Road to the Massacre series. See you in September!

FRAG Apoc Tank Battle Gets a Major Upgrade!

As many of you know, the Apocalypse Tank Battle has been one of the main staples for FRAG events since the inception of the club. We love taking it to conventions more than anything, and the large table and tons of tanks always draw a lot of interest from the crowd. It also provides a great opportunity for getting random players involved who haven’t played 40K before. While players are encouraged to bring their own models, I dip into my collection every year and make sure to bring at least 40 tanks that anyone can use. As I said, it’s been a lot of fun and the public loves it, especially the kids.

The problem is, I’m bored with it. After all, you can only run the same event so many times before it starts to get stale. Now, I do have a couple of options in the form of other games I could run. Anyone who stopped by the FRAG tables at KantCon this year and played Chaos Gate: A Roman Holiday for the Gods can attest to at least one of the great games we’ve been cooking up behind the scenes. But with all the success we’ve had with the Tank Battle, it just didn’t feel right to cancel it. So, I’m giving it an upgrade.

God damn that’s a lot of resin!

When I think of upgrading a game, my first thought is bigger guns, more explosions, and more awesome effects. So, I went bat shit crazy for a little while and ordered the lot of titans in the above picture. Over the course of the winter, I’ll be assembling and painting these beauties while myself and some other FRAG members rework the rules a bit to make the inclusion of more superheavies viable without breaking the game too much. If you’d like to follow the build, you can find the progress thread in the forum here: Titan Project. You will need to have a user account and be signed in to the forum to read the thread.

With this upgrade to the Apoc Tank Battle and the finishing touches being put on the Chaos Gate rules, we’re really looking forward to 2015! Hopefully everyone can make it out to at least one of the conventions this year and give our games a shot. We’d love to hear your opinion of them!
