More Midwest Massacre 2013 Details Released!

UPDATE:  Primer Packets have been released. Please find the links at the bottom of this post.

UPDATE:  Due to lack of interest, the 3000 Point Championship Tournament has been cancelled.  We will still be giving away the Championship Belt, however it will go to the Best Overall of the GT Tournament.

Tonight, I’m releasing everything you need to know all at once! This is going to be long, so bear with me. Here’s what is happening for the 2013 Midwest Massacre, September 13-14 at Fall Recruits in Lee’s Summit High School, Missouri:

Last year, we got some complaints about calling ourselves a GT when we didn’t require painting or give out an overall trophy that included painting and sportsmanship scores. But FRAG has always been about allowing the players that don’t have the time or skills to paint a fair chance at winning too. After all, we want EVERYBODY to have fun, and you can’t do that by excluding people. We do understand that for many players, there is an expectation of certain things when they pay for a GT ticket though. One of those things is to be playing against painted armies. We want everyone to enjoy the experience as much as possible, after all, trips like this can be expensive if you are traveling in from out of town and you deserve an experience that meets your expectations. But don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten where we came from either…

So for the first time ever, FRAG will be running two tournaments at the Midwest Massacre!

The first one I want to talk about will be a traditional format, 1850 point Grand Tournament. There will be 32 spots available, and you will be able to pre-register through this website starting June 21st, 2013. Cost for this event will be $50 and will include your badge for the convention. This tournament will be 5 rounds and the winner will be chosen based on win-loss record. The first game will be Friday night and all remaining games will be played on Saturday. Prizes will be awarded Saturday night after the last round and will include Best Overall, Best General, Best Painted, and Player’s Choice awards. Each award includes a Plaque recognizing the achievement and prizes including but not limited to Games Workshop product. The Best Overall winner will also receive The Sword Of Champions, a custom made trophy for this event. All models must be painted and based to the usual three color standard for GTs. Full details on scoring, including the painting and sportsmanship rubrics, as well as the full schedule and pairing details will be available in the Primer Packet for this tournament when it is released.

So that takes care of the GT, but we still have one more tournament to talk about, and this one is quite unusual as far as tournaments go. But FRAG likes a challenge, so we’re doing it anyway. This tournament is going to be a 3000 point, 3 round, 3.5 hour per round slugfest! There will be 32 spots available and you will be able to pre-register just like the GT. Cost for this event will be $35 and that will include your badge to the convention. As I stated earlier, this tournament will be three rounds, and all three will be played on Saturday. Prizes will be given out on Saturday after the tournament has concluded and will include prizes for First Place, Second Place, and Third Place. Second and Third place will receive a Plaque recognizing the achievement and First Place will receive the FRAG Championship Belt, a custom made trophy for this event. Each award will also include prizes including but not limited to Games Workshop product. Painting is not required for this event, and no “soft” scores will be used. Winners will be chosen based on accumulated Battle Points. Full rules, scoring and pairing information, and schedule will be available in the Primer for this tournament when it is released.

Hope to see you there!

Midwest Massacre 2013 Dates Announced! and FRAG are proud to announce that we will once again be holding the Midwest Massacre, the only Warhammer 40K Grand Tournament in Kansas City! This year will be our fifth year running the Massacre, and we’ve got something really special planned to celebrate the occasion! We’ll be releasing the details a little at a time over the next couple of weeks, so be sure to check back frequently so you don’t miss any important announcements!

There are a few things I can tell you though, like the fact that this year’s dates are going to be Sept 13-15. And once again we will be holding it at Fall Recruits. Fall Recruits is held at Lee’s Summit High School in Lee’s Summit , MO.

I can also tell you that due to popular demand, we will be giving away another Championship Belt. Hopefully we can get last year’s Champ back to defend his title!

Once again, this year we’ll be giving out trophies and prizes, with tons of great door prizes. This year, we’ve revamped our door prize system to give everyone a better chance at winning something. This year, we’ve decided to give one ticket to each person who purchases an entry into a Midwest Massacre Tournament. We’ve decided painting shouldn’t have anything to do with door prizes.

Instead, we’re also holding a painting competition! This painting competition will be open to anyone who has a convention badge and will be free to enter! Expect all the details, including the rules and categories, to be posted in the near future.

That’s it for now. There’s still lots to be done and time is ticking away on us, so I had better get back to work! If anyone is interested in helping with the Midwest Massacre in any way, please speak to me or Adam or send us an email: Please be sure to put “Midwest Massacre” in the subject line.
