Tournament Etiquette Part 2: Pre-Game and Post-Game Behavior

Welcome to the second article in the Tournament Etiquette series! This time, we’re going to talk about the way you interact with the other people you meet at a tournament and how your behavior effects them and their perceptions. With Sportsmanship scores being a part of many of the larger tournaments these days, they way your opponent perceives you is especially important.

I’m going to make the assumption that you’ve shown up in a timely manner and found your table. If this isn’t the case, you can stop now. In all honesty, you’ve already blown it if you are late. If you’ve made your opponent look for you or wonder whether you were actually going to show up before the game starts, he’s going to have a bad impression of you from the start. Once you give a person an obvious flaw, they tend to look for more as they go along and are less likely to excuse the honest mistakes. Don’t start off on the wrong foot! Be on time!

Now that you’re at your table,

Tournament Etiquette Part 1: Dice

When you first start playing Warhammer 40K in a tournament environment, things can be a bit intimidating. Things move at a faster pace, there are generally more people present than at a game night, and the prospect of winning prizes can make some people a little more uptight than they would be otherwise. You also play multiple games instead of just one, so several hours of standing and playing add exhaustion on top of the stress. Let’s face it. Tired and stressed out people don’t think very well, and they tend to have a harder time dealing with unfamiliar situations.

Maximizing Your Minutes

I first heard the term “maximizing your minutes” in relation to pro wrestling.  WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross always gives talent the advice to make the most out of the time you’re in front of the camera.  If you have three minutes to perform, you make sure that at the end of the night the crowd remembers those three minutes.  Warhammer 40k is no different really, every round you only have a set amount of time, and it is up to you not to squander the precious time you have every round to have both an enjoyable game, and a complete one.  Let’s face it; no one likes dice down endings.

New FRAG Warhammer 40K Tournament Rules Released

Two years and an edition change later, it’s well past time for new FRAG tournament rules. We took a long time and playtested several different variations of this ruleset to make sure it was the most fairly balanced for 6th edition and we’re very pleased with the results.

As you all know, we run the Midwest Massacre GT every year, and we wanted to make our regular tournaments match the GT as much as possible while still remaining fair and balanced for the smaller crowds. With this new tournament ruleset, we’ve done just that. FRAG tournaments will now all follow the same general format, no matter the size or venue.

Installing lights in your Necron Monolith can be a fun and effective way of creating a centerpiece for your army. While putting lights into your existing Monolith may seem like a daunting task, following these directions should take the difficulty right out of it.

Cheap and Easy Army Transport

One of the questions we hear frequently in this hobby is, “Where can I get a less expensive way to transport my miniatures?” After all, with the prices of models rising constantly, and the figure cases running from $50 and up for the ones large enough to transport an army, who can afford it? So we set out to build a cheap alternative to those expensive figure cases and we were shocked at exactly how cheap and easy it turned out to be. And to top it off, our transport case ended up being MUCH larger than the commercially available ones. For this example, we’ll be using the one we made for vehicles. Here’s how we did it:
